Under a Common Ground

2014

Door, dust, light bulb, rope, rocks, tools;
Charcoal frottage on paper

This collaboration with artist Hannes Middelberg takes place in a former butcher shop turned independent art space in Bremen, Germany.

Interested in the basement as a physical base and embracing this place as raw material for exploration, we open a study of the forms found there. Through drawing (the shared medium between our practices), we approach the architecture as a drawing in itself by exploring the stones, the walls, the dust, the bricks, the darkness, and the feeling of being under (a common) ground.

The exhibition is installed on both the ground floor and in the basement, proposing two different experiences to the visitor. The first one allows everything to be visible. The second one conceals and invites sharper engagement of the senses.
